Genre: Drama/Fantasy

Summary: ***WARNING: This movie is not for young kids, even though the trailer might seem so. It is an unexpected and original mixture of adult conflict and kid fairy tales.

What I liked: Pan’s Labyrinth is a serious story of a Fascist army versus rebels fighting for their freedom, while at the same time an outstanding story of a young girl’s journey through a wondrous fairy tale. The plot was flawless and the characters are all unforgettable. There’s a perfectly ruthless bad guy, and a horrifying monster that could give a kid nightmares. I can’t classify one person as the hero/heroine, but the lead girl was brave, innocent, and creative.

Didn't like: The only thing stopping me from giving this a five is some unnecessary images that definitely could have been left out: sawing a leg, a brutal and graphic murder. Then there’s the fact that the entire movie is in subtitles; you have to read it.

Additional:
>>Dad: “Mixes a harsh story of war with child’s fantasy; dainty fairies alongside torture and inhumane treatment. It was beautiful, but I kept thinking “who did they make this for?”

Recommend for: DEFINATLY NOT A KIDS MOVIE

Comments:
Even though I more or less agree with your overall rating (I'd give it a 4.5 personally), I really disagree or rather, I'm unsatisfied with your break down of the movie.

I think for a movie as original and creative as this, you could've gone into a lot more detail about the summary, what you liked and what you didn't like, (even though it does seem you like to keep things brief). I also don't think it's right to classify subtitles as a dislike.

But yeah, I'm glad I found your page again and I hope you're doing well!

I think most 13 year olds would prefer to keep their eyes on the photography, rather than spend half the time reading. It's not a big deal, but thought I would let my readers know.

Yes, I do tend to keep the reviews brief and focus on my overall reaction. I also worry about giving too much away. Some reviews and trailers tell you half the stuff that happens, and I would rather you see it all unfold as intended. However, I will think of a few more things I really liked about it, and add to the review. Thank you for your honest feedback.
