What I liked: I really enjoyed the Illustrated Movie Companion for The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. It got me to want to see the movie. This book is LOADED with awesome pictures that are crisp and detailed. I counted over 200 photos and had a third of the book still to go. It has photos of the cast, behind the scenes stuff, close-ups of weapons and costumes, and more.
I also like making movies, and this book shows plenty of detail about the techniques they use to film and create special effects. For my birthday, I recently got a big ‘green screen’ for making special effects at home, and it was cool to see how they used the idea to film battle scenes. All sorts of characters with bright green leotards; you just have to check out the book to see what I mean. The book talks about how they use a story board to pick camera angles first, and it has a sections on the music, make-up and costumes, and more. The book does a good job of showing the props and weapons with lots of detail. My dad really liked the section about the miniature scaled models of the places that are in the movie. Entire landscapes, castles, and towns. Overall it’s a great companion to the movie, with plenty of stuff you won’t see by just going to the movie.
Didn’t like: Nothing really. There are some spoilers, for sure, but I still want to see the movie!! PS – All of the reviews I’ve seen on Amazon give this book top stars!
Recommend for: All ages.
This video is a featurette, which is probably the best companion to the Illustrated Movie Companion book! It will give you a taste of what the book brings in large doses.
