Video Game Review

Pick who you think is the Game of the Decade at CrispyGamer.com, using a head-to-head tournament system:

http://www.crispygamer.com/features/2009-11-30/game-of-the-decade-make-your-nominations.aspx

Some of the matchups include:

Rockband vs Burnout

GTA 3 vs Diablo II

Shadow of the Colossus vs Pikmin

Half-life 2 vs Dead Rising

Halo: Combat Evolved vs Ratchet & Clank

I'm partial to Shadow of the Colossus, though I don't think it will do well. I'd love to make a feature film based on it.

1 - Will Smith

He is my absolute favorite actor. He can be very funny, as he showed with the time he spent on the Fresh Prince of Bel Air, and he can be very serious and moving and sometimes even yank a tear or two out of you, as he shows in movies like The Pursuit of Happiness. He switches it up a little bit with this clip, of him being dramatic, on the Fresh Prince. I almost cried watching it the first time.

2 - Jack Nicholson

To me, he's no Will Smith, but he is good enough to make it to number 2 on my list. He has that classic smile that, even when genuine, is almost predatory. In this scene from 5 easy pieces, he tries to explain to a stubborn waitress, that he just wants a side of toast.

3 - Malcolm McDowell

Ah, the infamous Alex from A Clockwork Orange. My favorite movie of all time, mind you. But that does not make him my favorite actor. Or even the second favorite. But he is still good enough to be 3rd. This is him in a scene from A Clockwork Orange, in which he is in the hospital, and is going through a test with the nurse. Very funny indeed.

4 - Heath Ledger

Heath. He never was my favorite actor. He was always only pretty good in his movies. Until of course, the Dark Knight. This is probrobly the greatest acting I've seen in a movie. Ever. He transformed himself completely, and you can't even see the actor, just the character. He modified every little thing. Voice. Appearance. Even posture. This is the party crashing scene from the Dark Knight. Rest in peace Heath.

5 - Ed Norton

He might be the last on my list, but mind you this IS the top five. This is the role that made me a fan of Ed Norton. And it's not Fight Club! This is him in a scene from Primal Fear. (WARNING-This scene DOES have alot of cussing in it.)

Why don't you let me know what your favorite actors are ?
Tell me in the comments !

Movie Review

Film Details
Starring: Christopher Plummer, Martin Landau, John C. Riley, Crispin Glover, Jennifer Connelly, Elijah Wood
Genre: Animation/Fantasy

Summary: Maybe it’s ahead of it’s time, but I didn’t like it very much.

What I liked: The animation by Matthew Teevan was absolutely amazing. On close ups you could see every little fiber detail and speck. Each of the characters was creative in their own way, but all seem to bring out a little bit of the personality and style of the producer, Tim Burton. Not that there’s anything wrong with that though, because I love his movies.  It was definitely original, and I like a good, original story. I just feel that I would have liked it more if it was drawn on a centimeter high stack of 10’ by 10’ pages with a font the size of walnuts.

Didn't like: Okay, maybe it’s just me, but I found the plot to be sort of vague. And the movie in general was kind of anti-climatic. It had some undercover meanings of hope and rebellion and stuff like that. I won’t get into too much of that just in case you haven’t seen it yet. But the plot is basically that they have to defeat the machines and save the future of civilization. They kind of do that in the end, but in a way that will make you say, “Why didn’t that just happen before?” Maybe the producer and director had this in mind from the start. Making it sort of like an obscure children’s story with more of a message than a story. And that’s okay. It’s just not what I expected.

It was definitely a roller coaster. If that rollercoaster happens to be one you ride right after a hefty dinner. It kept reaching a point where you thought it was over, and that there was nothing else for them to do. But something would always happen, and sometimes it would be something that you didn’t expect; mostly because it wouldn’t be logical. But then again this is a movie starring voodoo doll half robots. It wasn’t a bad movie, so I guess I would recommend seeing it. I just think there were quite a few cons.

Recommend for: I think it would get less interesting the older you get.

Hey everyone! It's been so long and I'm really sorry. But I have a legit excuse. :) I raised the money for that film workshop! I didn't think I could do it, and I don't even know how I did in the end, but the point is that I went. And it was AWESOME! I learned SO much. This probably doesn't make sense, but I learned all about the 3 column rule, and the 180 rule, and what sticks, stingers, and gels are. I soaked in all of it and I'm so glad because I am officially a film maker!!!! I got a certificate to prove it! I also have a DVD of the film we produced, "The Perfect Guy", but need to get it converted for the web. I really like being behind the camera.

Now I know your probably thinking, "Nick, you've been gone for longer than two weeks." And there's a reason for that too. I made a couple connections with the teachers there. And then the next week, one of them, Dave Haas, was directing a short film that he wanted me to help out with! Of course, I said I would be honored. So I had to wake up at 4 am, for crew call at 6am, but it was worth it. It was so much fun, it was my first actual shoot! Here's a slide show of pics from the set:

Then the next two days, a teacher from the camp, Dave DeBorde, was filming the pilot for a sitcom called "Spinners". Dave Haas was the D.P. (camera guy), and he got to use the RED, which is a really good camera. I had to wake up at 4 both days and there was some tough work involved. I was dead tired but it was the greatest experience of my life so far! I definitely want to do that for the rest of my life! Here's some pics from the set of Spinners:

Hey everyone ! I recently just sent my payment for the film workshop that I wish to go to in Studio 620 in St. Pete ! I'm so excited, I looked it up at studio620.org/620 and I found the page dedicated to the camp. It tells what we will be doing in the two weeks of being there. I have to ride with my dad for 4 hours every day just to get there and back though, so I hope it's worth it ! I'm going to go think of some idea's for movies, seeing as how I'm supposed to pitch idea's starting the first day. I want to be prepared ! :)

Have you been to any interesting summer camps or workshops? Tell me about it in the comments.
